Musical Theater Workshop: Journey into the World of Seussical

(3rd-8th Grade)

Dive into the world of Seussical during this 4-day workshop devoted to developing young actors and actresses through the energetic retelling of some of Theodore Geisel’s most famous books.  Students will explore the antics of characters such as the Cat in the Hat, Jojo, Thing 1 and 2, Gertrude McFuzz, and Horton the Elephant under the expert tutelage of Reece Livingstone.  All participants will have either solos or duets.

Reece Livingstone is a director, playwright, screenwriter, teacher, actor, singer and multiple instrument musician.  He has directed numerous shows at the Arvada Center including Annie Get Your Gun, Once On This Island, Guys and Dolls, and Oklahoma.  Many of his students have gone on to appear on TV and film projects.


Young Artists Chorale Workshop

(3rd-8th Grade)

Come get a taste of the Young Artists Chorale during this two-hour introductory workshop.  Kathryn Hayes, the YAC director, will introduce students to the joys of choral singing by exploring some of the 2018 Summer Season repertoire and choreography.  Parents are invited to a showcase at 11:45 am where students will share what they have learned.  If you have ever thought about joining the Young Artists Chorale or just want a taste of choral singing, this workshop is for you!  For more information on the Young Artists Chorale visit https://youngartistsalliance.com/young-artists-chorale/.

Kathryn Hayes taught vocal music in public schools (18 years high school, 17 years middle school, and 3 years elementary).  She also directed the University of Las Vegas Chorale, and was the children’s and adult choir director for the Centeral Christian Church in Las Vegas, NV and the North Hills Christian Church and North Metro Church in Thornton, CO.  


Creative Art Workshop I: Punched Tin Lanterns

(4th-8th Grade)

$15

April 14, 10:00-12:00 pm @ Skyview High School (8990 York St, Thornton, CO 80229)

Design and create a Colonial style punched tin lantern.  Tin punch became popular after the Revolutionary War when tin was considered ‘poor man’s silver’ because it was inexpensive, durable, and did not need polishing.  Students will leave with their own unique lantern they can illuminate with a candle or light kit and hang in their room or outside.

Medium: metal working, punching, illumination

Skills: design, filling positive and negative space, lines, using dots


 

Creative Art Workshop II: Create Your Own Art Bot

(K-3rd Grade)

$15

April 14, 11:00-12:00 pm @ Skyview High School (8990 York St, Thornton, CO 80229)

Using art and engineer skills, students will create a fun and fascinating friend that will dance and entertain while creating unique pieces of art.
